Salix alba var vitellinaRouge Ardennais’

Rouge = red

Ardennais derives from Ardennes, a region in NE France

Another selection in this group, but unique in that the young branches start red and turn to orange, then yellow as they mature. As you can see the tips of young branches remain red during winter. Dried rod color: orange-scarlet

USES: large ornamental tree; if coppiced it provides lots of stems for cutting; great winter color for the garden, container or vase; good for basketry and dried stems turn orange.

This is a row of ‘Rouge Ardennais’ in the nursery.

It makes a great hedge, don’t you think?

Young tips that start red and older stems turn yellow.
