Salix caprea subspecies sphacealata

Text and photos to come

This is a unique form of Salix caprea. It grows into a large imposing tree 60-70ft tall (20-22 meters) and is native to northern Britain as well as the mountains of Scandinavia. It is the most dominent tree along the coast of Norway, growing with Norway Spruce and Mountain Ash. I personally believe that this is a unique form of caprea that deserves to have specific status. It would not surprise me if Salix caprea is an offspring of this Salix, not the other way around!
